Barbados
BGI-Bridgetown is the capital. Predominantly British clientele, great cuisine options around the island, lots of restaurants to choose from! Airlift can be somewhat of a challenge to fly to BGI, depending on where you’re flying in from. Sat to Sat is normally the best flight times from all gateways. Fun Fact: Barbados flag is Beach Bum Blue & Yellow! BGI is the airport code. Tours/Excursions: Jeep Safari, snorkel excursions, golf, shopping, historical sightseeing tour, underground caves, & Jolly Roger lunch sailing).
Family Resorts:
- Budget: Crystal Cove (All inclusive)- Lots of complimentary watersports – including waterskiing. Water taxi between west coast Elegant Hotels and access to other properties (guests were utilizing this!) Compact property but is hilly and has steps. Good for: budget-conscious travelers with little all-inclusive experience.
- Moderate: The Crane Resort- Designed for honeymooners and couples looking to tie the knot, this romantic island resort provides an inspired blend of past and present. 15 minutes from the airport but further from other areas of the island such as Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap. Good for: multi-generational family groups
- Luxury: Sandy Lane- the ultimate 5-star luxury resort on the island, but EP. Rooms are very large and high-tech; 4 buildings all connected to lobby and restaurants (great if it is raining or nighttime). Thirty minutes from the airport and includes fast-track upon arrival at the airport. The pool is situated away from the beach area – 3-5-minute walk from the lobby
- Luxury: Fairmont Royal Pavilion - Located on a half-mile of Barbados' renowned St. James Coast, the Caribbean's finest and friendliest service compliment a holiday experience for couples and families alike.
Adults Only Resorts:
- Moderate: The House is perfect for those who want a very small, intimate, boutique-style resort.
- Luxury: Sandals Royal Barbados: Good for: honeymooners, groups, destination weddings, groups of friends/couples. South Seas village is VERY quiet. Royal Seaside Village is a great location – close to everything on both sides and not too far from anything. Sign up for the free snorkel boat that goes out around 11:30 am most days. You have to take a van to get the pier and it will be about 2.5-3 hours but the snorkeling is fun and you are almost guaranteed to see tons of sea turtles!
- Moderate: Barbados: Right next to Sandals Royal Barbados, has shared privileges. Good for: honeymooners, groups, destination weddings, groups of friends/couples. Beachfront Village rooms are VERY close to the main pool and overlook it. Crystal Lagoon Village is very quiet.
Activities:
Island Routes: has the monopoly of excursions on the islands; Jolly Roger Lunch Cruise is an upbeat, party-like popular tour for couples; Jeep Safari popular with travelers looking for something a little calmer.
- Tiami Catamaran Cruises http://tiamicatamarancruises.com/: Tiami Luxury Lunch Cruise is $100 per adult and less for kids with hotel pickup/drop-off included (age-dependent $50-75) (the tourism board can set it up if you a travel agent going yourself – free to TAs and discount for guests); about 5 hours long and the best part is swimming with the sea turtles (other guests saw them on Island Routes excursions and even on the complimentary Sandals daily snorkel trip); the staff was excellent in finding best snorkel locations; food was OK-typical catamaran cruise; boats were very nice and definitely clean and docking area is nice, too
- Mount Gay Rum: tours of distillery available to book through Viator or Mount Gay website direct https://www.mountgayrum.com/tour-mount-gay/
- Oistins Fish Fry: local festival every Friday evening with food and music; about 15 minutes from Sandals; it was recommended to me that Saturdays are also great and not as packed with people
- Golf: lots available on the island; Sandy Lane courses are stunning and very well maintained; Barbados Golf Club also popular
